Donor Spotlight: Lorene (Lori) Southworth ’79

In celebration of Matching Gift Month, we recently caught up with Lorene (Lori) Southworth ’79, who steadfastly participates in IBM’s matching gift program. We thank Lori, and all matching gift donors, for their action to strengthen their impact at Lehigh.

What is your fondest memory of Lehigh?

I have many fond memories of Lehigh but, two of the strongest ones are the lasting friendships that I made while I was a student and the quality education that I received while attending Lehigh. This education helped me lay a solid foundation and prepare for my future career.

Where has life taken you since Lehigh?

After graduation from Lehigh, I started my career in the technology Industry. I have worked for several companies in a variety of different roles that included sales, business development, education, and program management, where one of my focus areas was women in technology.

Why do you support Lehigh?

I feel that it is very important to give back to the institution that provided me with a wonderful platform to launch my career. I was prepared and was able to work well in a competitive environment.

Why motivates you to participate in your employer’s matching gift program?

My employer, IBM, offers a program that is available to any employee or retiree who donates money to an accredited higher education institution by simply registering online. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to match the funds that I contribute to Lehigh and help the university receive additional funding.
