Before retiring about five years ago, Reunion volunteer Martin H. Neidell ’68 was a partner in a major New York City law firm for more than 30 years. As a Lehigh student, Martin was business manager of the Epitome yearbook, participated in intramural sports, and held the role of social chairman of McConn House. Reflecting on your time in the Lehigh family, what is your fondest memory as an alumnus?
MN: As an alumnus, my fondest memory was being invited back to campus to speak at an event sponsored by the Student Lawyers Association. I had the opportunity to interact with the students and describe my experiences as a lawyer. After the event, I had dinner with the president of Lehigh at Mountaintop Campus. I have also become a member of the College of Arts and Science Dean’s External Advisory Council and get to come back to Lehigh several times a year.
How many Reunion Weekends have you attended?
MN: Reunion 2018 will be my first reunion. Over the past 10 years, I have become more active at Lehigh, and I look forward to reconnecting with people I haven’t seen for 50 years. I am active on my reunion committee and have had great telephone connections with former classmates.
What motivated you to get involved with the Reunion committee?
MN: In addition to becoming a member of the CAS Dean’s External Advisory Council and getting more involved at Lehigh, I’ve also made substantial monetary contributions to Lehigh, including having a room named after me at the Linderman Library and establishing an endowment fund to benefit the faculty in the Political Science department.
Let’s say you’re chatting with a fellow alumnus that is on the fence about Reunion 2018. What would you say to convince them to attend?
MN: I will remind him how beautiful Lehigh is and how the campus facilities have changed dramatically over the last 50 years, including the addition of Mountaintop Campus and emergence of Saucon Valley.
BONUS QUESTION
You just arrived in Bethlehem for the Reunion 2018, and you’re starving. Where are you going to eat and what are you ordering?
MN: I would go to the Tally Ho and get a Ho-burger and pitcher of beer. I did this at least once a week when I was a student at Lehigh. I actually did this about a year ago and was not disappointed!
